Make Child Hunger A Priority in Fannin County!
September is Hunger Action Month, making this month an opportunity for you to make childhood hunger a priority. According to Feeding America, an organization that provides food assistance programs to those in need, nearly 13 million children residing in the U.S. today, face hunger. The effects of hunger on children can affect their well-being for the rest of their lives.
No child can be expected to learn and grow without the proper nutrition to get them there. A poor-quality diet that lacks nutritious food has detrimental effects on a child's physical and mental health. Poor nutrition can increase the risk of developing health problems, including diabetes and hypertension.
In Southeast Tennessee and Northwest Georgia, the Chattanooga Area Food Bank projects a 40% increase in overall food insecurity, affecting 1 in 5 people. For children, it is expected for food insecurity to increase 54%, affecting more than 1 in 4 kids.
Your past support is greatly appreciated and without you, we would never have been able to provide food for the children of Fannin County. This September, we can all do our part to end childhood hunger by participating in Snack in a Backpack’s Virtual Food Drive. Go to our home page and select ‘Donate’ and participate in our Virtual Food Drive.
