SAVE THE DATE FEBRUARY 23, 2023

 The 12th Annual Snack in a Backpack event honoring "Champions For Children"  will be held at Fightingtown Tavern on Thursday, February 23rd from 5:30 to 8:30.  Tickets are available now, just click the Donate Button.


The event will feature music, a buffet dinner, a cash bar, and recognition of this year's Champions.

Fannin County Chamber Banquet

 The 38th Annual Fannin Chamber Banquet was held on Friday, January 13th, 2023 at Brasstown Valley Resort and Spa. The event celebrated many great people from our community! Shelley Eyerly was awarded Ambassador of the Year, Greg Spencer was awarded Outstanding Member, Kevin Panter received the Community Service award, Snack in a Backpack received the Heart of the Community Award, and the Honorary Lifetime Membership award went to Joe and Cilla Cipolla! 


Snack in a Backpack representatives are Debby Beck Executive Director along with members of our Board, Greg Spencer and Carl Pruett .

BY THE NUMBERS

According to the 2022 American Community Survey, the estimated 11,174 Fannin County households analyzed for the report break down as follows:


EXTREMELY POOR:   2,995 Households $0 - $25,000 

These households are suffering or unable to afford very basic needs


VERY POOR/LOW INCOME: 3,006 Households $25,001-$45,000 

These households are likely employed; however, income does not cover the basic household necessities and often requires public assistance.


FINANCIALLY BURDENED: 1,944 Households $45,001 - $60,000

These households are likely employed with a higher wage; however, income does not cover the basic household necessities, and most public assistance is not available at this level.   


SELF-SUFFICIENT: 3,229 Households $60,001+

These households have reached economic success and no longer need public assistance or family support.

Mission Statement

The mission of the Snack in a Backpack program is to decrease the burden of childhood hunger in Fannin County by providing food-insecure families a weekend and school vacation food assistance program.

Since 2009, Snack in a Backpack has been helping Fannin children get nutritious and easy-to-prepare food they need for weekends, school breaks, and summer vacation breaks. Snack in a Backpack in affiliation with the Chattanooga Food Bank distributes approximately 1600+ meals to children each week.

Program at a Glance

  • Provides food insecure children in Fannin County with food for weekends, holidays, and summer vacation breaks when school breakfasts and lunches are not available. 

  • Provides nutritious, healthy food that is easy to prepare.

  • Provides summer meals for food insecure Fannin children when school is not in session.

  • Serves the children most in need as determined by school staff who know them best.

  • Is a community and volunteer supported program.
