An unexpected change from her planned college major to education, led Cayley Hamilton to her position today as an elementary school teacher in Fannin County. As a requirement for her Master’s program graduate school studies, she chose a service project which partnered with the “Snack in a Backpack” organization.
The project goal for “Feed and Read Fannin” was for every child in the program to receive a new book of their very own, chosen especially for them by Cayley, based on their grade and their reading level.
The results have been more than she hoped for. In November, 250 books were distributed and sent home to each elementary school child who receives “Snack in a Backpack”.
Thanks are due to donations made from all over the country. As a result of the success this year and knowing the potential educational impact for children in the future, Cayley has decided to create a nonprofit to be continued annually which will enrich the literary lives of the children in the area for years to come. Cayley’s wish for the recipients, this year and for those in the future, can be best shared by the frontispiece in each book. “This is just the beginning…a special piece of literature picked out just for you to add to your library! Never stop turning over the next page in your life!
Imagine for a moment to be one of the children who qualifies for free breakfast and lunch at school and you bring home “Snack in a Backpack” meals for the weekend. For you, it has been a tough year. Your school closed, your parents couldn’t work and you were worried and didn’t know if your folks could make ends meet and keep food in the house.
Friends, while you and I can’t solve all the problems these children have, we can make sure they have nutritious food for the weekend. We can fight childhood hunger in Fannin County. Snack in a Backpack hopes to raise $20,000 this fall, which will supply 400 children with 4 months of weekend meals.
We offer several levels of support found on the attached link, but no matter what you can give, please know that your contribution is appreciated. Snack in a Backpack pledges to use your gift to serve the children of Fannin County.
